In Burkina Faso, the Movement of the People for Progress (MPP), the former ruling party, is emptying itself of several of its leading figures. 17 members of the national executive board and about 100 executives have resigned. It is through a letter addressed to Alassane Bala Sakandé, head of the formation of former President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré. The creation of a new party is not envisaged, reassures one of the resigners. But it announces other waves of resignations in the Burkinabe political landscape.
This is not the first wave of resignations recorded within the People’s Movement for Progress (MPP) but rather the second. According to a former member of the national executive board, it follows an audit that revealed dysfunctions within the party.
”The audit revealed major shortcomings both at the organizational level and at the level of fellowship. Clanism and division had taken over “This source told RFI with dismay.
Ministers and former MPs leave the MPP
The resigning members of the People’s Movement for Progress (MPP) are not the least of them. These are big names, including members of the national executive board and the national political board. There are also several former ministers, such as the former head of diplomacy Alpha Barry, the former Minister of Energy Bachir Ismael Ouédraogo or the former Minister Delegate for Territorial Administration Madjara Sagnon Tou, as well as former deputies.
Alassane Bala Sakandé accused of bribery
Whether they are members of the national executive board and the national political board, ministers or former deputies, these former MPP militants accuse Alassane Bala Sakandé, the president of the party, of having instrumentalized some militants. This, in order to question the conclusions of the report of the ad hoc committee and oppose the holding of a congress to renew the organs of the party.
