Mahamat Idriss Deby and his retinue are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The work of the inclusive and sovereign national dialogue at the Palace of January 15 in N’djamena, continues and will probably end on October 8. On Monday, participants discussed issues of political parties, the electoral process and major institutions before finally adopting the report of the ad-hoc committee on “the structure of the state, the constitution, institutional reforms and the electoral process”.<\/p>\n\n

In a statement published on the website of the Chadian presidency on Tuesday, it emerged from the discussions that “independent candidates will be admitted to all elections. A consensus was reached so that any Chadian who meets the conditions set by the law can vote and be eligible,” the statement said.<\/p>\n\n

On the issue of institutional reforms, the assembly decided to maintain the following major institutions: the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Council, the Court of Auditors, the High Court of Justice, the National Ombudsman, the HAMA (High Authority for the Media and Audiovisual), the CNDH (National Human Rights Commission), the High Council of Traditional Chiefs, and the Military Court of Justice, according to the statement.<\/p>\n\n

The adoption of these measures is likely to raise the tone of the African Union, which is already calling on the transitional authorities “to respect the 18-month period for the completion of the transition. And above all, last week he reaffirmed unequivocally that no member of the transition is eligible for the future Chadian elections.<\/p>\n\n

The dialogue, which began in Chad on August 20, is intended to lead to free and transparent elections for a return to constitutional order after General Mahamat Idriss Deby took power in April 2021 following the death of his father, Field Marshal D\u00e9by Itno.<\/p>\n\n
