After winning a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album for her project Mother Nature, Ang\u00e9lique was named one of the three winners of the Polar Music Prize 2023.<\/p>\n\n<p>As written on their website, &#8220;The Polar Music Prize is an international music prize celebrating the power and importance of music.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p> The organizers issued a communiqu\u00e9 on the morning of March 28 to announce that she is a winner of the aforementioned Prize.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;The Polar Music Prize 2023 is awarded to Ang\u00e9lique Kidjo from Benin. A unique and unstoppable artist and songwriter. Ang\u00e9lique Kidjo speaks and sings in five languages: Fon, French, Yor\u00f9b\u00e1, Goun and English. Ang\u00e9lique grew up in Cotonou, surrounded by the dynamic Beninese culture and listening to music from all over the world: soul, jazz, reggae, afrobeat, pop, classical. When a communist dictatorship tried to silence her, she moved to Paris and became even more active. Ang\u00e9lique Kidjo invented the word batonga, a response to those who think girls don&#8217;t belong in schools, and runs the Batonga Foundation, which seeks out girls and provides them with education. Bono has said of her, &#8220;In Africa&#8217;s new morning, Ang\u00e9lique Kidjo is the warmth of the rising sun&#8221;.<\/p>\n<cite>Polar Music Prize<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Ang\u00e9lique Kidjo expressed her pride at being awarded the Polar Music Prize 2023 along with Blackwell and P\u00e4rt. The first, her musical godfather, has been &#8220;one of the key figures in the development of popular music for half a century&#8221; according to the Swedish jury.
