The cultural space Le Centre of Lobozounkpa in the town of Abomey-Calavi hosted on Friday, July 1st<\/sup>, 2022, the screening of the movie THE KING’S CANE. A realization of the Beninese Reilinght Tchobo which recalls the heroism of the kings of Danxom\u00e8 and the queen Tassi Hangb\u00e9. The initiative is part of the promotion of African cinema through the WA CINEMA project.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

They are more than a hundred lovers of the 7th<\/sup>art to take the appointment in the evening of Friday, July 1st<\/sup>, 2022 to follow the king’s cane movie of director Reilinght Tchobo. A purely Beninese action-adventure movie about the power struggles in the ancient kingdom of Danxom\u00e8. This feature film of 97 minutes, or 1h37mn22s released in 2021, puts a particular emphasis on the recade, symbol of power. It is a journey through time that values the cultural heritage of Benin and pays tribute to the Amazons.<\/p>\n\n

the king’s cane is actually the story of two young resourceful people, Ola and Tagla, who by fate have found the shark king’s recipe. This very powerful and coveted ancient artifact belonged to the previous ruler of Danxome, who was betrayed and murdered by his half-brother Zowadan out of lust for the throne and the powers of the recade. The object disappeared at the death of the King and since then, we move heaven and earth to find it.<\/p>\n\n

According to director Reilinght Tchobo, the idea of writing the script of the KING’S CANE movie has been germinating since 2013 and has had various fortunes before its release in 2021. The shooting led the team of realization on several sites of Benin of which mainly some royal palaces of Abomey, Abomey-Calavi, precisely in Dans\u00e8komey and Womey then in Akpakpa in Cotonou. The success with the public has earned several national and international awards, in particular the big prize of the Cannes 2022 Off Cinema at the 75th<\/sup> Cannes Festival held from May 17 to 28 in France.<\/p>\n\n

The director of the National Center of Cinema and Moving Images of Benin, Eric Todan, present at the event, praised the young team of actors for the revolution brought to Beninese cinema. The quality of the image, the different sequences, the action games and the ingenious rendering of the story, are all aspects that amazed Eric Todan. For him, the succession is more than assured and that augurs good days for the cinema in Benin.<\/p>\n\n

Moviegoers are very happy to have enjoyed this masterpiece made in Benin. “We are proud to see the Beninese talent expressing itself to remind us a part of our history” they concluded.<\/p>\n\n
