The 21st edition of the Titigweti English Club (TEC) English-speaking days took place on Thursday 14 July on the campus of Abomey-Calavi. Organised each year at the end of each term, they aim to bring together all English speakers and enthusiasts around a common cause, through various activities. For this 21st edition, three days were dedicated to the celebrations and several competitions were held. Among others, we have the BLC (Best Lady Competition).<\/p>\n\n

As in all other competitions, the candidates were evaluated on several criteria. But the specificity of these competitions is the handling of the language of Shakespeare. Thus, the miss contest, Best Ladies, gazed at fifteen young girls on the podium during a magnificent gala evening organised at the town hall of Abomey-Calavi on Friday 15 July. Compared to other miss competitions, the Titigweti English Club’s Best Ladies competition emphasised the language skills of the candidates. Indeed, all assessments were conducted in English through different sections: project presentation, translation tests, debate, listening, reading and many others.<\/p>\n\n

\"English<\/figure>\n\n

“If women want their rights to be respected today for a sustainable future, it will be up to them. I mean on us. If we want people to respect us, we have to earn respect by respecting ourselves and being ready to act,” said Salima Alagb\u00e9, president of the Titigweti English club. Furthermore, “The fight for freedom, for equality, would be in vain if we are not ready to embody the changes and seize the opportunities. And this is what the best ladies competition is preparing women for,” she continued.<\/p>\n\n

At the end of the various tests, Rosette Tekou, a student in her second year of English, won the competition. She became the best lady of the Titigweti club. He was followed by Siracide Amegnikpo as first dauphine and Edouarda Afanou as second dauphine. The winner is already planning to take up several challenges, including training other women in female leadership. Several activities took place during this gala evening in front of an audience composed of parents, friends, former members of the Titigweti club… who came to support the initiative.<\/p>\n\n

On Saturday, the English Speakers Days activities of the club ended at the beach in a festive atmosphere, like a big family. Created since 1996, Titigweti English Club aims to promote English in Benin while using the passion of its members through its six sections namely: Listening, Stories and Jokes, Reading, Debate and Discussion, Drama, News or Drama section, not forgetting the Best Ladies session.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
