Vaginal dryness is generally manifested by the inability of the vagina to properly hydrate itself. It can occur at any age but is most often found in women who have reached the menopausal stage, pregnant or in young mothers. Despite being a hormonal disruption in women, several external factors can cause vaginal dryness. These include stress, alcohol consumption, smoking or other drugs, certain medications, birth control or a genital infection. According to statistics, vaginal dryness affects 25% of women before menopause. But 37% of them find it difficult to discuss the subject with their spouse.
There are about 4 main things that can trigger vaginal dryness.
Vaginal dryness can be explained by a drop in estrogen levels or by a disturbance of the vaginal flora, especially due to wearing tight clothing, overly aggressive intimate care or irritation of the vaginal mucosa. Some medications can also cause vaginal dryness, such as psychotropic substances or antihypertensive drugs. In addition to these different factors, menopause causes vaginal dryness in women. This form of vaginal dryness is essentially linked to the atrophy of the vaginal mucosa which becomes less humid, less thick and manifests itself by painful sensations which can however alter the libido.
Symptoms of vaginal dryness.
Redness in the external genitalia, itching, irritation or local inflammation are all signs of vaginal dryness. These numerous signs make the vaginal flora very sensitive to infections, with repercussions such as pain during sexual relations and even a decrease in libido.
Treatment methods for vaginal dryness in women.
There are three types of treatment for vaginal dryness: natural treatment, hormone replacement therapy and lubricants.
Natural products such as coconut oil, evening primrose oil or aloe vera are effective treatments even if they are less efficient than estrogens. They can help treat mild forms of vaginal dryness or in women with a contraindication to estrogen. It is advisable to apply them directly to the vulva to benefit from their soothing properties.
As for the ovules, they help moisturize and heal the vaginal mucosa. The ovules contain hyaluronic acid which promotes tissue reconstruction.
The lubricant prevents pain and improves comfort during sexual relations. It is recommended to use it at the first signs of discomfort.
Some advice before any s3xual relationship.
To fight against vaginal dryness, it is recommended to use a lubricant. Foreplay should be taken into consideration as it allows for the natural lubrication of the vagina. “To prevent vaginal dryness, it is widely recommended to continue to have regular s3xual activity,” say gynecologists.
Prevention of vaginal dryness.
Three golden rules prescribed by gynecologists should be observed to prevent vaginal dryness. First of all, it is important to have a good local hygiene but not too frequent and not to use too aggressive products. Second, alcohol and tobacco should be avoided. Finally, it is recommended to wear underwear made of soft materials such as cotton.
