Long announced to be put into service, the Guinea Telephone Company (SOTEGUI), whose new name is now Guinea Telecom, will rise from its ashes in the first half of 2023. The information is given this Wednesday, October 12, 2022 on the radio Espace Fm by the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy, Ousmane Gaoual Diallo.

According to the government spokesman and Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy, Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, “Guinea Telecom should be launched on October 2, 2022. “Unfortunately, it should be launched with an average technology. I felt that it was not necessary to start with a technology that is behind the major operator of the country.

    Keeping up with technology

For a smooth flow of the Internet connection in Guinea, the authorities bet more 4G or 5G instead of 3G.

“I don’t intend to launch with 3G, I would like to launch with 4G or 5G. This requires updating our facilities with a little more financial mobilization. So we have pushed back to the first half of 2023. The current facilities are capable of supporting 3G and 4G (…),” explained Minister Ousmane Gaoual Diallo.

What about the building that will house the facilities?

When asked about the building that should house the data center, Minister Ousmane Gaoual Diallo said he could not believe it when he visited the site. He denounces some behaviors that do not honor.

“When I was shown the building that is to serve as a data center, the former building of the ARTP, which should be rehabilitated to receive our servers and I was told that for this site, 7 million dollars have been disbursed, I understood that there are actors in our country who are very bad for Guinea. While we make a backbone between 3 million and 3 million 500 thousand dollars in the sub-region (…) “.

On this occasion, he stated that audits would be carried out to determine responsibilities.
