Last week, Nigeria was rocked by the sudden and mysterious death of an afrobeat star, Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as MohBad. At the tender age of just 27, his untimely passing has sent shockwaves of grief and outrage among his fans and the general public. Nigerian authorities have responded by opening an investigation to unravel the circumstances of his demise.

MohBad passed away last week at a Lagos hospital, where he had been admitted for an undisclosed illness. The news of his death quickly spread across social media, prompting an outpouring of sorrow and questions about the causes of his demise.

    Protests for justice

On Tuesday, thousands of young Nigerians took to the streets of Lagos to demand justice for Mohbad. The protests rapidly gained momentum across the country, fueled by the need for answers regarding the rising star’s death.

In the face of mounting outrage, the Lagos State Police exhumed MohBad’s body for an autopsy. This decision came in response to complaints about the unclear circumstances of his death and the insistence of the artist’s supporters on social media.

    Call for justice

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also responded to the tragedy by ordering a thorough investigation to shed light on the events that led to MohBad’s death. He called for calm and restraint, urging friends and fans of the deceased to avoid incendiary statements and to respect the investigative process.

Public outrage also turned toward Naira Marley, MohBad’s mentor, with whom the late artist had a public falling out after leaving Marlian Records the previous year. This reaction led to the ban of Naira Marley’s songs by a major radio station in southwest Nigeria, SplashFM, for the duration of the investigation. Naira Marley himself called for a thorough inquiry into MohBad’s death and pledged to support efforts to uncover any potential criminal acts or injustices.

    Anxious anticipation

As Nigeria anxiously awaits the results of the autopsy, tributes continue to pour in for MohBad. His fans, fellow artists, and the music industry as a whole mourn his loss, while the country hopes that the truth about his death will soon come to light.
