Nigerian artist Davido narrowly escaped an attack by a rampaging “fan” during his much anticipated concert at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.

Upon his return in the spotlight after a long break, Davido had not only announced the release of his new album Timeless but also several live concerts. After New York and London, it was the turn of Lagos to see O.B.O set the stage on fire on April 21.

While Davido was performing his song Fia, a furious “fan” went on stage and rushed threateningly at the artist. The latter, surely on his guard, did not let himself be caught by surprise by the intruder. Ready to defend himself, the singer almost punched him if security personnel had not quickly intervened. They grabbed the intruder and escorted him off the stage.

The video of the altercation went viral on Twitter. While many Internet users are applauding Davido’s composure and ease in defending himself, others are speculating about the motive behind this narrowly avoided assault.

Had it not been for this unexpected attack, Davido was able to offer his fans in Lagos an amazing concert and a “timeless” night as he had promised.
