In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), 5 civilians were killed by ADF terrorists in Supa-Kalau, a locality located in the Buliki groupement, Ruwenzori sector in Beni territory. The tragedy occurred last weekend.

The victims were executed by ADF attackers in Makako near Mbilali. The circumstances of the tragedy were described by the local chief in a telephone interview on Tuesday 08 November 2022. The local authority speaks of a provisional figure.

“The victims who were killed were caught in their fields in the middle of a field activity. Apart from the dead, there was one injured person who was taken to the general referral hospital of Beni for appropriate care, but also some missing persons. The bodies of the victims are still at the scene of the tragedy. The situation is confused in the area”, reports Florry Kivautu.

    Insecurity slows down agricultural activities

According to Florry Kivautu, chief of the locality of Supa-Kalau, this situation has disrupted farming activities in Kalau.

“After this killing, the farming activities are slowing down, especially in Kalau and its surroundings. Farmers are afraid to go to their fields. The enemy is circulating here and there, after the bombing of some rebel positions last week by the FARDC-UPDF coalition in Mwalika”, says the local authority.

The population is called upon to be more vigilant

The new Congolese civil society in the Ruwenzori sector calls on the population to be vigilant, given the enemy’s movement.

Its coordinator, Meleki Mulala, nevertheless invites the inhabitants to collaborate in the fight against insecurity. He therefore calls for any suspicious cases to be reported to the relevant authorities.
