2022 World Cup: Sadio Mané officially withdrawn from the competition

    By Gérard Dawa17 November 2022Updated:19 June 2023
As the 2022 World Cup kicks off on 20 November in Qatar, Senegal has lost one of its key players. It is Sadio Mané, the child of Bambali who took his country to the roof of Africa for the first time by winning the CAN 2022 against Egypt. The Senegalese international will not be on Aliou Cisse's list for the World Cup as he suffered a shin injury during the Bayern-Werder Bremen match on Tuesday 8 November.

It’s definitely confirmed! Sadio Mané will not be on the green rectangle with his teammates to play the various matches of the World Cup Qatar 2022. The Lion of Terranga is struggling to recover from his injury to emerge.

The bad news came on the evening of Thursday 17 November 2022 and was announced by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF).

While a few days ago, many Senegalese and Africans still had hope and believed that the best African player of the moment would be able to participate in the competition.

But a Lion is still a Lion. Even away from the pitch, the child from Bambali will be able to give moral support to his teammates.

For information, Senegal will face the Netherlands on Monday 21 November at 17h00.
