Fat B, the nugget of Beninese rap in concert

The Mayton space in Zogbadje hosted last Saturday, 11 March 2023, the 100% live concert of Fat B.

The artist killed two birds with one stone: the organisation of her very first live concert and the launch of Petite Fleur, her first album.

She was surrounded by several of her colleagues from different fields (music, slam, humour, etc.) but all united by art: Fifa la Lune, Cheoma Sossou, Miraka, Women Kings, Iriko Slam, Queen Debby, Bamidele, Gems Tity, Marina Queen.

But it wasn’t just a women’s show. The artist also had the support of the famous initiator of the Gangan-Trap, Bobo Wê.

Judging by the comments, photos and videos gleaned here and there on Facebook, it was worth it. Fat B gave the audience a colourful and emotional performance.

    Fat B, engaged rapper

Fat B confided at the listening session and press conference held on 8 March that her project is the upgrading of women state through urban music. In fact, her eight-track album is a compendium of texts about the history and daily life of women.

“The project “Valorisation of women through urban music” is a project dedicated to Beninese women in particular. This project was carried out in three parts. The first part is the production of an album. The second part is a live concert featuring only women artists. The third part is a social action (editor’s note: material and financial support for 150 children and women). […] My fight is to raise awareness, to bring women to be conscious, to take charge, to be autonomous because it is difficult to fight for your rights when you are not autonomous.

Fat B, Fatima Bakary in civil status, is a rapper and singer born on 6 August 1998. She is signed under the label Dope Music.

Passionate about music from a young age, she made her debut in 2018 in rap 229 with her first single ‘Bijou du Ktier’. Following this, she has released several freestyles and singles: Mon chemin, Nivo, Initiation, Death Note.

But it was her participation in the ’10 of God’ challenge launched by Tyaf in 2020 that revealed her to the Beninese public.

She stood out from the crowd with her unique vocal tone, poignant lyrics and flow. Her reputation has grown ever since.

Fat B, it’s not only rap ! The young artist has many to prove. A philosopher by training, she also got trained in photojournalism. She owns Fatby Creativity studio.

She intends to make a name for herself in rap 229, a milieu in which, in living memory, women struggle to make their mark. And things seem to work for her ! She is to be followed very closely.
