In an exclusive interview with Bip radio, the former Beninese president Boni Yayi explained the motives behind his recent video that is currently creating a buzz.
Thomas Boni Yayi surprised the entire Beninese nation by posting a video of himself playing a guitar and singing a Christian hymn during the Easter night. The video and its author quickly became the talk of the country.
As reported by Bip radio, Boni Yayi made the song for a specific purpose. It was an act of friendship and brotherhood ; his way of supporting and giving hope to his political adviser Amos Élégbé who is reportedly unwell.
“I chose this song and dedicated it to him to support and encourage him. It’s a song he loves and sings all the time when our Bible study group
was meeting.”, he said.
The approximately 8-minute video was shot over two or three days at the home of the former head of state in Cadjehoun. He was not alone. He was accompanied by a duo as talented as him. On the one hand, on the drums, Rodrigue, a musician from a choir in Cotonou. On the other hand, Ornel, a music teacher, added his voice to hers by strumming the strings of a guitar.
Yayi Boni and the guitar : a love story.
In the video, Boni Yayi was also playing guitar with the help of a spectrum. When asked about his adventure with this chordophone, he confides that it is an instrument he is particularly fond of and from which he almost never separates. He also revealed that he is taking music theory lessons.
“It’s an instrument I love. I always have one in my suitcase when I travel.”
Moreover, Boni Yayi does not intend to stop there. Seizing the opportunity, he announced the release of a video very soon. The latter, unlike the one that is currently making the buzz, will not be a gospel music. Talon’s predecessor will remind Beninese music lovers that “Il est bon de voguer sur le lac Ahémé” (it is good to sail on Lake Ahémé) with the song of the same title by GG Vickey.
