The Association of Filmmakers of the Animated Image of Benin (ACIAB) in collaboration with its partners including Vivendi Create Joy and La Grande Place, is organising from 19 September to 16 December 2022, a free training workshop for young people over 18 years old in difficult situations. For the 3rd edition, the activities will take place in the city of Porto-Novo. The ACIAB’s animated quarter, Porto-Novo 2022, is being held after Savalou in 2021 and the Ouidah 2020 introductory workshop on animation.

To promote African animation movies through actions aiming at revealing everything that is done in this field in Benin and in the West African sub-region. This is the main objective of the Association of Filmmakers of the Animated Image of Benin (ACIAB).

Active since January 2020, ACIAB is a melting pot of women and men who share a passion for animated films (cartoons) and whose actions are based on three main axes The aim is to strengthen the capacities of young people in the artistic field linked to the digital sector, a sector of the future in Africa and in the world; to fight against the rural exodus and the underemployment of young people and, finally, to promote the gender approach (equality between men and women).

The animated quarter, a purely social and job-creating project.

The animated quarter is a program that introduces and teaches the techniques of 2D cartoon making. A project dedicated to young people over the age of 18 from disadvantaged backgrounds who do not have the financial resources to be trained. The training is entirely free of charge and is directly linked to ACIAB’s ambition to make animated films a source of employment for young people. But also to make this sub-sector of the cinema one of the levers in the fight against precariousness and to support the beneficiaries for a perfect professional integration.

Socio-cultural mixing and strengthening links between generations are two other priorities of the ACIAB.

The animated quarter, beyond the training of young people in the professions of animated cinema, is based on other aspects of society and its components. This initiative is intended to be a factor in strengthening the social link, not only between the different communities of Porto-Novo (Ouémè, Goun, Yoruba), but also between the generations.

Registration for the 3rd edition of the “ACIAB animated quarter, Porto-Novo 2022” continues until 31 August 2022. Participants are fully taken care of throughout the three months of training.
