Meeting with the diplomatic body the day before

The announcement of the upcoming national assembly in Burkina Faso actually follows the exchange session of the president of the transition, Captain Traoré, with the diplomatic corps on Friday, October 7, 2022. On this occasion, the Head of State of Burkina Faso requested the support of the diplomatic body accredited in the country.

During this meeting, Captain Traoré presented to all the participants the current situation in Burkina and the reasons for the change at the head of the State.

“From January 24 to today, the security climate has deteriorated enough as well as the socio-political climate,” said the new strong man of Burkina, stressing that the meaning of the fight is to give “more peace to our people.

He affirmed, according to the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, that the September 30 coup against Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba “is part of the dynamic of working to re-establish security in the areas under his control, to accelerate the fight against terrorism and to allow the population to have a peaceful life.

“It’s just to save our homeland, our land, our people,” he reassured. Captain Ibrahim Traoré said that the work has already begun, and “we expect the support of all (…). We ask for your support.

Assurances from the diplomatic body and other institutions to the new authorities

The same statement also notes that the diplomatic body and the international and inter-African organizations present in Burkina Faso have, through their representatives at this meeting, assured their availability to accompany Burkina Faso to meet the current challenges.

It should be recalled that Captain Ibrahim Traoré, acting president, took power on September 30, 2022, overthrowing Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba.
