The french institutes located in Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso are closed until further notice. A decision of the french institute published in a statement this wednesday, October 05th, 2022. The reason is the acts of vandalism perpetrated over the past weekend against the diplomatic offices of the Hexagon in the country of the Honest Men.

“Following the acts of vandalism carried out on the two French institutes of Burkina Faso on Saturday, October 1, 2022, the French Institute of Burkina Faso remains closed to the public, until further notice. The two sites of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso are affected by this temporary closure,” the statement said.

Indeed, following the coup that took place last Friday in Burkina Faso, people took to the streets of the two main cities to demand the departure of President Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba, suspected of benefiting from French protection. The demonstrators then attacked buildings with French symbols, such as the headquarters of the French embassy in Ouagadougou and the sites of French institutes in the country.

Yesterday, Tuesday, the Burkina Faso Trade Union Action Unit (UAS), which includes six trade union centers and 17 autonomous unions, issued a statement demanding that French troops leave Burkina Faso.

These anti-French feelings are gaining more and more ground in the former French colonies. Anti-French demonstrations have indeed become common on the continent and are now emulated in Chad, Mali, Niger …

Symbol of the cooperation between France and its former colonies, the French Institutes are establishments of the French State for the promotion of the French culture and language.
