The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled on Wednesday 26 October 2022, the new timetable of the process of awarding the organisation of the African Cup of Nations (CAN2023). This news from the African football body comes almost a month after the withdrawal of the organisation of the competition from Guinea due to delays in the works.

In a statement, CAF (Confederation of African Football) said it has formally sent a letter to all its member associations inviting them to express their interest in hosting the tournament.

Thus, candidates now have until 11 November to complete and submit a declaration of interest form to CAF. They will then have to put together a file with various documents (organisation agreement, agreement with the host cities, government guarantees) which they will have to return to the pan-African body no later than 16 December.

A visit to candidate countries’ stadiums

Following the submission of applications, CAF has announced inspection visits that will take place between 5 and 25 January in the countries concerned. And it is after this stage that CAF will unveil its final choice at the end of its executive committee on 10 February. This could be a host country or countries, says the body, whose vision is to encourage co-organisation.

It should be noted that after CAF’s decision to withdraw the organisation of the 2025 African Cup of Nations from Guinea, several countries offered to host the continental competition. For example, Algeriahas formally expressed its interest, Morocco unofficially. As for Senegal, itis also strongly considering it.
