Benin’s President Patrice Talon visited Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso on Thursday 16 February.
The Beninese host had a working session with his Burkinabe counterpart, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of the Transition.
The main reason for the working visit of Benin’s Head of State to Ouagadougou was cooperation issues. Following the exchanges between the two presidents, the Head of State of Burkina Faso met with the entire Beninese delegation, according to a statement by the Presidency of Burkina Faso on its Facebook page.
Patrice Talon’s trip to Ouagadougou comes at a time when the security situation in the north of Benin, on the border between Burkina Faso and Benin, is marked by frequent attacks by armed jihadist groups. Indeed, in the Atakora department, jihadists from Burkina Faso and Niger have increased their attacks in recent months. They have infiltrated national parks in the north of the country to launch attacks against the security forces and demand the closure of schools. There is great concern as the north of the country is undermined by community tensions, climate change and contested management of natural areas.
