The Lions of Teranga of Senegal played their third group match on Tuesday 29 November. Against the Ecuadorian team, they snatched their qualifying ticket for the round of 16. Senegal is the first African nation to reach this stage of the competition so far.

Senegal and Ecuador were separated by a score of 2 goals to 1 after 90 minutes of play and six minutes of extra time. This match in favour of the Lions of Teranga, allows Senegal to advance to the eighth round. A feat achieved thanks to goals from Ismaïla Sarr and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Indeed, the first part of the match ended in a draw. After the break, everything changed in the 42nd minute when Ecuador’s Hincapié committed a heavy foul on Isamaïla Sarr. The penalty is confirmed by the referee. With a perfect counter-attack, Ismaïla Sarr managed to break through Galindez’s net.
Ecuador also responded with several attempts. In the 67th minute, Caicedo turned the game around with a corner from Gonzalo Plata.

Two minutes into the game, luck was again on Senegal’s side. Captain Kalidou Koulibaly shook off a direct free-kick from Gana Gueye and into the net.

It should be noted that Tunisia, Ghana, Cameroon and Morocco have to play for everything and hope to continue the adventure of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Tunisia will be playing against France on Wednesday 30 November 2022 at 4pm.
