On a working visit to Benin for the past few days as part of a series of activities, Wilfried GANGBO received the congratulations of the Government of the Republic of Benin for his brilliant admission to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (UCLA). This was done during an official ceremony organized this Monday, August 29, 2022 and presided over by Abdoulaye Bio-TCHANE, Minister of State in charge of Development and Coordination of Government Action, in the presence of the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research Eléonore YAYI LADEKAN, Yves Chabi KOUARO, the Minister of Secondary Education and Technical and Vocational Training, members of the Presidential Education Unit, the representative of the National Education Council, the representative of the Benin Academy (ANSALB) and many other personalities of the educational system.

It was an opportunity for the College of Rectors of Public Universities of Benin represented by Professor Joachim Djimon GBENOU (Rector of UNSTIM) to congratulate him and to express its gratitude for his admission. UCLA is one of the oldest, largest, and most prestigious learned societies not only in the United States but in the world.

Wilfried GANGBO is a Full Professor of Mathematics at the University of California at Los Angeles (USA). He is one of the main architects of the creation of the Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (IMSP) in Dangbo, where he will give lectures during his stay, share experiences with teacher-researchers from Benin’s universities, and meet with actors from the Beninese scientific world.

Moreover, a deserved tribute will be paid to him on Monday 05 September 2022 in the Idriss Déby Itno amphitheatre of the University of Abomey-Calavi by the Scientific Council of the UAC for his rise to such a high level of science and international recognition. At the ceremony, he will present a paper on “Some directions for mathematics in the 21st century”.

According to his agenda, he is in Benin until 14 September 2022.
