The government of Benin, which intends to implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda, has approved the United Nations Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development 2023-2026. The document was validated by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday 1 March 2023.
According to the minutes of the Council of Ministers, this “document drawn up by agreement between the parties aims to support the government in the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, the national priorities set out in the National Development Plan 2018-2025 and the Government Action Program 2021-2026”.
Indeed, the United Nations 2030 Agenda aims, through the action of the international community, to achieve “people who are more resilient, in good health and nutrition, better educated, enjoying social protection, living in peace and security, in an environment of justice, and committed to sustainable, participatory and inclusive development”.
With an overall cost of FCFA 377,411,650,000 over the reference period, of which FCFA 148,500,000,000 will be borne by Benin, the approval of the framework plan also takes into account the national priorities set out in the 2018-2025 National Development Plan and the Government’s 2021-2026 Action Program.
Thus, the framework plan is structured around strategic axes, in line with the government’s priorities. The aim is to ensure the structural transformation of the economy and resilience to shocks, guarantee social protection and equitable, inclusive and quality access to basic social services. Not to mention consolidating democracy, the rule of law, good governance and social cohesion.
According to the Council of Ministers, “the Minister of Economy and Finance will proceed to the signature of the Framework Plan and the resulting projects and programs will be formulated accordingly”.
