Benin: The first wave of pilgrims to Hajj 2022 has taken off

By Afro impact Newsroom27 June 2022Updated:27 June 2022
The flight of the first wave of Hajj pilgrims has taken off

The first wave of 305 Beninese pilgrims out of the 2,083 selected, took off from Cotonou’s Cardinal Bernardin Gantin International Airport on board Turkish Airlines’ Airbus A 330-300 on Thursday 23 June 2022 bound for Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Suspended for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Hajj will resume this year and be held from 7 to 12 July 2022. This year, 2083 Beninese pilgrims are expected in Mecca, according to the quota granted by Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in collaboration with the General Directorate of the Agency for the Management of Software Logistics (AGLO) worked to ensure that the pilgrimage was held in good conditions.

In accordance with Saudi Arabia’s requirements, each of the pilgrims brought their travel documents (biometric passport, vaccination booklet, negative PCR test for Covid-19 less than seventy-two (72) hours old upon boarding).

Following this first flight, others will follow until June 29 so that the 2,083 Beninese pilgrims selected for the Hajj 2022 tread the holy land of Saudi Arabia safe and sound.
