In Burkina Faso, two people were injured in the morning of Monday 24 October 2022 in Bourzanga, Bam province, in the north-central region of the country. According to the Burkina news agency (AIB), the injuries were caused by shrapnel fired by armed men from the neighbouring commune of Rollo.

The incident occurred around 5am when the three shells fell in the town of Bourzanga, slightly injuring an elderly man and his wife.

And according to other reports from Bourzanga, as soon as the shells fell, a Burkinabe army helicopter was already in the area and ground troops began a sweep.

Return to calm after the incident

The shells were fired 12 kilometres from the town of Bourzanga. After the panic, life has returned to normal in Bourzanga and people are going about their business.

As a reminder, armed groups are putting pressure on the commune of Bourzanga. Last May, more than 40 assailants were neutralised and a large amount of equipment recovered during an attack by the military detachment in Bourzanga.

Djibo, target of a terrorist attack on Monday 24 October

On the same Monday, terrorists carried out an attack in Djibo. It was the 14th Interarmy Regiment operating in this locality that was targeted. 10 soldiers died, according to a statement from the communication department of the Armed Forces General Staff. The regiment’s response, however, resulted in the neutralisation of at least 18 terrorists.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces salutes the memory of the fallen soldiers and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

He also congratulated the ground and air units for their responsiveness and reassured the public that all measures are being taken to restore peace.
