    DRC: Preparatory work of the COP27 ends this Wednesday, September 7

    UN releases report on violence in South Sudan Supported by Egypt, the three-day conference is being held in the run-up to COP27. It is the locality of Yangambi in the province of Tshopo that hosts this international event.

    The objective of the Yangambi meeting is to unite the world to fight against climate change. The major challenge of the scientists invited to the meeting is to propose solutions based on the assets that the Democratic Republic of Congo has to face climate change.

    To better understand the issue, more than a hundred national and international scientists, experts in environmental issues have been discussing since Tuesday, September 6, on the theme “contribution of the Congo Basin forests and other tropical basins to the fight against climate change: status and prospects.

    During this first day of scientific exchanges, about forty professors from internationally renowned universities from Africa and around the world took turns to speak about climate and climate funds capture, forest, biodiversity and ecosystem services, water resources, soil, wetlands and peatlands, low-carbon energy path and carbon market.

    DRC, Country-Solution to Global Climate Change

    Mrs. Eve Bazaiba Masudi, Deputy Prime Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, returned on the importance of this international meeting. According to her, this meeting is an opportunity to further demonstrate the value of ecosystem services of the Congo Basin forests.

    Together with the flow tower, Yangambi is a prospectively significant contribution to the global climate cause. “Yangambi makes the DRC a country-solution to the climate crisis”, adds the Deputy Prime Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development.

    At the end of the work, the Congolese government expects the formalization of reliable data and information to prove the exact value of ecosystem services in the DRC and the Congo Basin. Also, it is a question of demonstrating effective ways to improve their protection in order to contribute to the fight against climate change.

    A joint declaration called Yangambi, will sanction the end of the work of the scientific segment on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. As for the Ministerial session of the Pre-COP27 in partnership with Egypt, it will take place in Kinshasa at the Palais du peuple from October 3 to 5.
