On Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 October, the second edition of the scientific days marking ten years of existence of the National Higher School of Applied Biosciences and Biotechnologies (ENSBBA) was held in bimodal mode in Dassa-zoumé.
Under the theme: “Scientific research facing the challenges of biotechnological innovations for economic and social development”, these days bring together research professionals to share their expertise and views in order to advance research.
For the Chancellor of the National University of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (UNSTIM), Joachim Djimon Gbenou, this scientific mass, which is in its second edition in the history of ENSBBA, is proof that this thematic university is really fighting to rise very high. “Without scientific research in any field, there would be no development, without research results there would be no rise in rank and without investment, without equipment, ENSBBA risks being reduced to theory,” he said.
According to him, science cannot be done without application, and these science days make it possible to evaluate the level of supervision of the students. He therefore urges them to take this activity very seriously as it will significantly enhance their career.
In addition, the prefect of the Collines, who was present to accompany the administrative authorities in the heavy task assigned to them, invited each actor to play his or her role to the full so that the young people who are being trained can demonstrate their capacities and skills on the ground. “This initiative confirms that without scientific research and innovation, there is no technological development in society,” he said.
And for the Director of ENSBBA, Dr Estelle Y. Laura Loko, this university centre aims to be a reference in Biosciences in the sub-region thanks to the efforts of all.
It should also be noted that this major scientific meeting brought together researchers, teacher-researchers, scientists, actors from the professional world, business leaders and others from countries such as Niger, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Congo and Pakistan, with about 70 papers on the agenda. An inaugural lecture by the UNSTIM Chancellor on the theme: “Oxidative stress and its consequences: what future for oxidative plants”, officially opened the communications.
The ENSBBA is a thematic university specialising in applied sciences, an area where scientific research is a priority. This is why the authorities of UNSTIM, the parent university that oversees the activities of the ENSBBA, have initiated a fund to promote scientific research.
A key scientific event in the history of the ENSBBA, these two days of work encouraged exchanges between researchers from all disciplines and promoted interdisciplinarity.
