The Embassy of Chad officially opens its doors in Israel. The inauguration ceremony took place jointly in Tel Aviv on Thursday 02 February between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the President of the Chadian transition, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.
“This is a great day, a historic day,” exclaimed Chadian Head of State General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.
“This is a historic moment that extends years of relations during which I have also visited Chad. We are strengthening our friendship in the areas of security for peace and prosperity. We had excellent talks yesterday. The new embassy will further strengthen our relationship,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu after the inauguration.
Mahamat Deby is on a state visit to the country since Wednesday where he met with Minister Netanyahu, Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Mossad boss David Barnea. The Chadian president then said he had a pious thought for his father, Marshal Idriss Deby Itno, whose courage and vision, according to him, supported by the manifest will of the Head of the Israeli Government, made it possible to concretise what was still an intention on February 2, 2023.
Indeed, the opening of the Chadian embassy in Israel marks an important step in diplomatic relations between the two countries. This reflects the desire of Chad and Israel to strengthen their political, economic and cultural cooperation. It is an ambition that dates back to January 2019, when Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Chadian President Idriss Deby announced the renewal of diplomatic relations between the two countries at a ceremony in Chad’s capital N’Djamena.
“These are relations that we want to improve to new levels, new heights, and your visit here to Israel and the opening of an embassy is an expression of that,” the Israeli minister said in a meeting with the Chadian president.
As a reminder, Chad re-established diplomatic relations with Israel in 2019, after having suspended them in 1972, due to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
