The President of the Algerian Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, ordered this Monday 20 March 2023 during a meeting of the Council of Ministers, to apply a reduction of 50% on air and sea travel for Algerians in the diaspora, for this month of Ramadan 2023.
Good news for Algerians living abroad. While they have always complained about the high cost of airline tickets to their country, Tebboune’s government has just responded to their request. At least for this month of Ramadan 2023. The President of the Republic has decided to grant an exceptional reduction of air and sea transport prices during Ramadhan up to 50% for the benefit of members of our national community abroad in order to allow them, if they so wish, to spend this holy month in the country with their families, in view of the economic difficulties in their countries of residence,” said a statement issued on Monday evening at the end of the Council of Ministers.
This decision takes into account some 5 million people who make up the Algerian community abroad, the majority of whom are in France.
In addition, as the month of Ramadan is a holy month for the Muslim faithful, the Council of Ministers also considered the availability of food products on the market for Algerian citizens. Thus, Abdelmadjid Tebboune “instructed the government to ensure more regulation and organisation in terms of supply, particularly in large cities, in order to avoid any problem of disruption and illegal speculation.
The president also ordered the members of his government ‘to avoid any form of austerity in supplying citizens with mass consumption products, while gradually working towards the adoption of a healthy consumption pattern for the Algerian citizen’.
