According to The Hollywood Reporter, renowned costume designer Ruth Carter has dedicated her new status to her late mother, who she says passed away last week. Ruth Carter was almost everything for her mother. She says: “My mother passed away last week and I had a great relationship with her in her last years….”
Ruth Carter said in her speech “ Thanks to the Academy for recognising the superhero that is a black woman,” she said to a round of applause. “She endures, she loves, she overcomes. She is every woman of this movie. And she is also my mother. Last week, Mable Carter became an ancestor and this film prepared me for that moment. Chadwick Boseman, please, take care of Mum “.
“Ryan Coogler, Nate Moore, thank you for your vision. Together we are rethinking the way culture is represented. To the Marvel family, Kevin Feige, Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito and their arsenal of geniuses: thank you! I dedicate this award to the many dedicated artists whose hands and hearts are felt in the costumes of Wakanda and Talokan. This is for my mother, she was 101 years old.”
