While Senegalese road transporters are challenging the measures taken by the government to limit accidents on the roads, another tragedy has struck the country of Macky Sall. At least 19 people lost their lives in a road accident on Sunday night in the north of the country.
The tragedy occurred as a result of a collision between a public transport bus and a truck on the Saint Louis-Louga road, near the town of Sakal, in northern Senegal.
“Another fatal accident on our roads at the entrance to Ngeun Sarr. 19 lives lost and 24 injured “President Macky Sall lamented on Twitter this morning.
“This highlights the need to strengthen road safety measures,” he continued.
A week ago, a collision between two buses killed 42 people in Kaffrine, according to an updated government report. At an inter-ministerial council, the government took 22 measures to counter the frequent road accidents in Senegal. But the transporters are not happy with these government measures and have decided to go on unlimited strike starting from Tuesday 17 January.
