With less than two weeks to go before the starting of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, football legend Samuel Eto’o, current president of The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has unveiled its two favourites who can reach the final and lift the trophy. To everyone’s surprise, Eto’o is talking about an African-style final between Morocco and his country Cameroon.

The president of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, has set the the Indomitable Lions the goal of reaching the 2022 a World Cup final. Appointed ambassador of the competition, the former FC Barcelona star also gave his predictions on the chances of the African teams. According to Samuel Eto’o, the 2022 World Cup promises to be historic for the continent.

In an interview with the organisers, the president of Fecafoot “sees the five African teams qualifying in the group phase, with Cameroon, Morocco and Senegal finishing at the top of their respective groups (Ghana and Tunisia 2nd, editor’s note)”.

Eto’o sees Cameroon winning the trophy

In addition to anticipating a rich World Cup for the black continent, the Cameroonian legend then anticipated a run to the final for Cameroon and Morocco. Thus, Eto’o “predicts a qualification of Morocco in the final after victories against Spain (in the round of 16), Portugal (in the quarter-finals) and the French defending champion (in the semi-finals). For Cameroon, the path to the final will be through victories against Belgium (in the quarter-finals) and Senegal, winners of the African Cup of Nations (semi-finals).

And in the final, the Cameroonian sees his Indomitable Lions beat the Atlas Lions on 18 December at the Lusail Stadium.

“Over the years, African teams have gained more and more experience, and I think they are ready not only to participate in a World Cup, but also to win it,” said the former Barcelona striker.

Even if his predictions are ambitious to say the least because no African nation has reached the quarter-finals of a World Cup since Ghana in 2010, Samuel Eto’o nevertheless assumes his choices and says he is very serene for Africa during the competition.
