The preview of the dance and theatre show ” Umbilical Cord ” was held this Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Fitheb in Cotonou. An initiative of Larred-Uac that aims to be a meeting of science, culture and art. “Umbilical Cord’ is a presentation of the results of doctoral theses in sociology-anthropology that deal with religion. The performance lasted 1 hour and 30 minutes in front of a very admiring audience who praised the genius of the artists.

They are 11 actors, members of The Larred Uac ballets (Laboratory of Analysis and Religions, Research Spaces and Development) has climbed on the stage of the Fitheb this Saturday, August 6, 2022. In front of more than 500 spectators including academics, culture and art lovers and executives at various levels, several artistic paintings of deities are presented. These include Vodou Thron, Dan, Sakpata, Fà and witchcraft in its perception. This show of song, dance and speech expresses a part of the socio-cultural dimension of Benin.

Umbilical cord, a return to the source.

Fiacre Anato is the artistic director of the Larred ballets. According to him, the show ” Umbilical cord ” sounds like a reconciliation with endogenous values to preserve the cultural identity of Benin. “We need to go back to the source, to reconcile ourselves with our origins, to find the fulfilment we need and to impose ourselves on this changing world,” he said.

Dodji Amouzouvi, Scientific Director of Larred-Uac, is satisfied.

The preview of the show ” Umbilical Cord ” by the Larred ballets was a success that went beyond expectations. The scientific director of Larred-Uac was very pleased with the standing ovation that followed the presentation. According to Dodji Amouzouvi, this is an innovation that testifies the quality of the work done upstream to achieve the varied encounter between science and culture.

The preview of the show ” Umbilical Cord ” is only one aspect of the research work carried out. Tonight, I feel that something has started. For once, the University of Abomey-Calavi through a scientific laboratory, through its ballets, has succeeded in this show which is a preview.

Taking advantage of the occasion, Dodji Amouzouvi greeted all those who, from near or far, contributed to the success of the event. He is also confident of the future success of the “umbilical cord” show at home and abroad.

A preview but already well received by the public.

The emotion is well shared by both the organisers and the spectators. “Cordon umbilical” highlights the cultural diversity of Benin, said Giscard Adjakpo, cultural entrepreneur. For his part, the artists on the stage showed professionalism and this is to be encouraged to better sell Benin as a destination.

Fofana Boukari, another culture lover, hopes that the initiative will be accompanied in the long term by the authorities. “What I experienced tonight is unprecedented. Benin needs this kind of innovation. It is no longer the time to stand still because a new deal is needed.

Excellence, the trademark of Larred since 2014.

The “umbilical cord” show confirms the excellence of Larred’s theses, said Chimène Wolo, a doctoral student at Larred. “This is our way of showing Benin and the world that quality theses are produced at Larred at the University of Abomey-Calavi. We are open to all memberships to improve the performance of our ballets,” concluded Ms. Chimène Wolo.

It should be noted that under the supervision of Professor Dodji Amouzouvi, the city of Bohicon hosted this Sunday, August 7, 2022 the dance and theatre show “Cordon Umbilical” of the Larred ballets.
