    Benin: The SYNEMP, 2021-2026 term, holds its first National Trade Union Council on Tuesday 30 August.

    The members of the Executive Board of the National Union of Nursery and Primary Education (SYNEMP-term 2021-2026) held their fourth statutory ordinary session on Friday 29 July 2022. The meeting took place at the association’s headquarters in Gbégamey (Cotonou) in the presence of the National Secretary General Victorien Kodjo Ahouandjinou. The meeting formalised the date of the First National Council.

    The National Union of Nursery and Primary Education (SYNEMP) is a public sector organisation with the mission of defending the interests of teaching staff in all nursery and primary schools in Benin. In order to always assume this heavy responsibility, the National Executive Board of the SYNEMP held its fourth statutory ordinary session. On the agenda was the date and place of the first National Trade Union Council. Thus after consultation, the choice was made for the department of Couffo to host this event on Tuesday 30 August 2022.

    The meeting of Friday 29 July was an opportunity for the members of the SYNEMP National Executive Board to unveil the fundamental points around which the debates will revolve during this First Trade Union Council. According to the report of the National Secretary General of SYNEMP, Victorien Kodjo Ahouandjinou, four main topics will be discussed. These are the balance sheet of activities, financial and moral; the life of the union; the career of the activists and the current challenges.

    Like any other organisation, SYNEMP has set itself objectives to better fulfil its role. According to the National Secretary General of SYNEMP, the main objectives are to consistently defend the material, professional and moral interests of all its members. Also, to establish action plans and carry out activities that lead to solidarity between kindergarten and primary school teachers.

    In addition to these two objectives, the capacity of Beninese teachers must be strengthened in order to raise the pedagogical, intellectual and cultural level as well as for the development and true emancipation of all.
