An armed group, whose identity has yet to be established, launched an assault on the police station of Dassari, in northern Benin, near the border with Burkina Faso, early this Sunday 26 June. The provisional report is that two policemen were killed, two terrorists were neutralised and another policeman was seriously injured.
On the night of Saturday 25 to Sunday 26 June, Benin was the target of a new terrorist attack. The scene took place at the police station of the Dassari district in the commune of Matéri, Atacora department, in the north of the country. Four people died and another, seriously injured, is currently in intensive care, according to our sources. The army was alerted to support the police in their response. The immediate and lightning response overcame their determination to sow death and desolation in the ranks of the attackers, who would no longer see two of their own. In addition to the human damage, the police station suffered huge material losses.
Furthermore, attacks in Benin by armed groups have been recurrent since December 2021, especially in the north of the country. We still remember that during the night of 25 to 26 April, the Monsey police station was attacked by armed men in the commune of Karimama. It resulted in one death and significant material damage. The assailants arrived on motorbikes and set fire to the police station after shooting a police officer.
At the beginning, it was the military who were targeted by the armed groups with the tactic of home-made mines. Now they have changed their method by storming police stations.
