In Benin, the Council of Ministers on Wednesday 15 February decided to create an agency that will be responsible for maintaining and operating parks, buildings and public places.
According to the minutes of the Council of Ministers, the creation of this agency is justified by the need to ensure the permanent maintenance, in good operating condition, of various buildings, parks and public spaces created or developed recently in Benin.
Thus, its mission is the maintenance of green spaces, the management and operation of public parks, gardens and their related facilities such as public car parks, the management and operation of public buildings used for cultural and sporting events.
The Agency’s remit also extends to the organisation of official events. These are currently the responsibility of the National Agency for Cultural, Sports and Official Events (ANECSMO).
In addition, in order to carry out its mission, the new Agency will sign partnership agreements with local authorities for the maintenance of the equipment and buildings assigned to them. It will also sign management agreements with the State Property Company (SoPIE) and with the Road Infrastructure and Territorial Development Company (SIRAT), for maintenance and upkeep activities.
The ministers concerned will ensure the operationalisation of the APEP whose bylaws have been adopted.
