Emmanuel Zoungrana was arrested on Tuesday 27 December at his home in Pabré by six Burkinabe gendarmes. The motive is that the senior army officer is planning a coup d’état against the current president of the transition.
He was accused in January of plotting a coup against former head of state Roch Marc Christian Kaboré. Released about a fortnight ago, he is now suspected of trying to overthrow the new president of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré. Here are the facts, according to a statement from the Burkinabe military prosecutor’s office made public on Wednesday.
