The 2022 edition of the CAF Awards takes place on Thursday 21 July in Morocco. The event will take place at Mohamed VI Technical Centre in Rabat in the presence of several African football personalities. The opening of the ceremony is scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
Who of Sadio Mané, Mohammed Salah or Édouard Mendy will be named the best African player of 2022? This question will be answered in the coming hours in Rabat, Morocco.
Senegal’s Sadio Mané, who won the 2019 African Player of the Year award, has had a very successful season. The current Bayern Munich man led his country for the first time to victory in the Cameroon 2021 African Cup of Nations final against his former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah’s Egypt. Both for the national team and for his club, Mané has won several awards. He scored a goal and an assist in his first game for Bavaria against DC-United.
Senegal and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is also in the mix. Best goalkeeper of the Cameroon 2021 African Cup of Nations, he was subsequently voted best goalkeeper of the same year by FIFA. Edouard Mendy is in top form and may well win the trophy.
In total, Senegal is in the running for five trophies. These are the trophies for best African player, youngest player, best goal, best male national team coach and best national team.
Egypt’s Mohamed Salah is also in with a shout of winning the title. He is a key member of the Egyptian national team and a fixture at his club Liverpool FC. He has a very rich record of achievement and has won the African Golden Ball twice.
It should be noted that, according to the latest news, Mohamed Salah will not be present at the 2022 CAF Awards ceremony.
