Controversial rapper Speed Darlington shocked the web on April 21 when he said Davido lacks talent.
Davido is a Nigerian Afrobeat singer who has been making Africa and the world dance with hits like “If“, “Assurance“, “Skelewu“, “Fall” and many more for almost a decade.
Currently, his song “Unavailable” (ft Musa Keys) is trending worldwide as well as his album Timeless released three weeks ago. The album, which marks Davido’s return to the spotlight after the death of his son, is breaking huge records. A few days ago, the album was declared the first African album in history to reach #1 on iTunes in the United States. It is also number 1 in Ghana, Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
With such a successful career, the man who is nicknamed OBO must have proven himself long ago. However, he seems not to win unanimous support.
Speed Darlington, a controversial Nigerian rapper expressed his opinion about Davido on April 21 on Instagram. According to him, Chioma’s husband is overrated in the music industry
Rapper Speed Darlington said he doesn’t understand how Davido could build and maintain such a great music career even though he allegedly lacks talent.
Sharing a flyer of Davido’s event held today in Lagos, Speed Darlington wrote: ““I don’t know how you manage to maintain a career. Your lack of talent amazes me yet you have a career.”
The rapper did not stop there. In an audio, also on his Instagram account, he accused Davido of just being a copycat.
In the audio shared online, Darlington can be heard shouting, ” Copy copy no go kill you.Talentless motherf***er, na so you go copy me.”
Speed Darlington: ” I’m the trend setter. I lead, others follow.”
A while later, still in the same day, Speed Darlington deleted his very controversial post. He explained why in a very short video.
“I decided to take that video down because I dey promote a person’s program for free. I don’t have the right to do anything for free. I dey promote a person’s event for free. So I deleted it.
No free advertisement.”
Anyway, Speed Darlington’s opinion earned him and is still earning him sharp rebukes, criticisms and mockeries from the net users.
