After almost a month’s wait, Guinness World Records has finally certified Hilda Baci’s culinary marathon. The Nigerian chef is now the record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
From 11 to 15 May 2023,Hilda Baci has taken on a crazy and impressive challenge. The Nigerian chef cooked over 100 dishes for 100 hours and 40 minutes without interruption. The previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes was held by Indian chef Lata Tondon.
Almost a month after this remarkable feat, Guinness World Records finally declared Hilda Baci the new holder of the record for the longest culinary marathon (individual). However, the institution only validated 93 hours and 11 minutes of its cooking time for reasons detailed on their website.
“After careful scrutiny of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest (individual) cooking marathon, with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes. […] Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours, but almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her breaks at the start of her attempt.”
Guinness World Records has also attested to the considerable impact Hilda has had in her country, Nigeria, and around the world by taking on this challenge she set herself.
“Hilda’s attempt caused a sensation on social media, with millions of people in Nigeria and beyond following her progress live on Instagram. Hilda’s cook-a-thon was in fact so popular that our website was blocked for two days due to the large amount of traffic we received from her countless loyal fans.”, they stated in the press release.
This certification is a real relief for many people who were worried about the silence of Guinness World Records. But who could be happier than the woman herself?
Hilda Baci: “Oh my God. Thank you so much.”
Hilda Baci was overwhelmed with emotion as soon as she heard the news that her record had been certified by Guinness World Records. In a video on her Instagram story, the chef first screams with joy. She then bursts into tears, thanking and praising God for his goodness to her.
Hilda Baci also expressed her enthusiasm on her Twitter account.
“This news is the best there is. O my God! Oh my God! Thank you so much”
