The general elections took place on Tuesday 09 August 2022 in Kenya. More than half of the population went to the polls to choose the country’s next leaders. Voters performed this civic duty on six occasions during this election.

For voters, this year’s elections will go off without incident. Through these elections, the successor to the current President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has been in power since 2013, will be known, as well as MPs, senators, county governors and members of county assemblies.
These general elections are a hope for Kenyan people.
Kenya, with a population of 56 million, is hoping for profound changes from these general elections. Since they come at a time when the economic and social crisis is at a crucial level, especially the problem of youth underemployment and unemployment that has been raging for some years.
Also, rigour is required on the part of the electoral commission for a peaceful election without any irregularities or major damage. According to one voter, Kenyans have changed and there will be no damage in these elections. “We cannot afford an electoral crisis on top of the economic crisis that is already hitting the country hard,” he adds.
William Ruto and Raila Odinga, two big names in 2022 elections.
Several candidates are running for these elections. But the two strong candidates are Deputy President William Ruto and Raila Odinga, who came to the polls for a fifth time.
The results must be announced seven days after the elections, and for a candidate to be elected, he or she must have 50% of the votes with one vote and 25% of half of the 47 counties. In case the procedure does not proceed as expected, another proclamation will be scheduled after 30 days.
