The Supreme Court of Kenya delivered its verdict on Monday, September 5, in the election dispute between former Vice President William Ruto and his challenger Raila Odinga. From the decision of the high court, William Ruto is declared the winner of the last presidential election.

It took several days and long hours of hearings to arrive at the decision rendered this Monday, September 5, 2022 by the Supreme Court. The judges of the high court ruled in favor of William Ruto and confirmed his victory in the presidential election. A verdict issued this Monday by the Supreme Court of Kenya, a respected institution in the country that had decided in 2017 to cancel the presidential election.

Odinga’s appeal rejected out of hand by the court.

The court did not go out of its way to refute all the arguments put forward by the Odinga camp. Some for lack of evidence in the eyes of the Court and others on the grounds that the irregularities complained of were not of sufficient magnitude to affect the final result.

” It is a unanimous decision. The appeals are hereby dismissed. Accordingly, we declare the first respondent (William Ruto) President-elect », declared Supreme Court Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Raila Odinga unhappy with the court’s decision.

“Sensationalist accusations based on hearsay“. These are the words of the president of the court to qualify some appeals of Raila Odinga. Regarding the four commissioners who dissented just before the announcement of the results, the president of the court spoke of “an unexpected drama” and said that they had not provided any evidence for their accusations. For her, it is not possible to “submit the will of the Kenyan people to the antics of the electoral commission. ”

In a statement, Raila Odinga said he did not disagree with the court’s “opinion” but said he “vehemently disapproves” of the decision. Raila Odinga continues to assert that his teams have provided the court with irrefutable arguments. According to him, it is “incredible” that all the points raised by the appeals were rejected.AR The latter even criticizes the Court for having “exaggerated” in the terms it used to refute their allegations.
