The Miss Scientific contest organised by the National University of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics of Abomey came to an end on Saturday 28 May 2022. The Abomey youth centre was the venue for the final of this first edition which mobilised several actors from the cultural world, rectoral authorities, students, sponsors, guests, parents and friends.
The scientific beauty of UNSTIM students celebrated with admiration. The celebration was nice and the organisers of the said competition confidently kept their promise to promote women scientists through this initiative which brought together students and cultural actors from the Zou department and others.
Indeed, 09 representatives of the nine schools of the four University Centres (Natitingou, Dassa, Abomey and Lokossa) of the University of Abomey took part in this new final on Saturday 28 May. Thus, 09 Amazons were at the start to conquer the prestigious crown but at the end only one won in front of a jury carefully constituted for the occasion.
At the end of the work, Brunice Padonou, a 3rd year student at the Faculty of Science and Technology in Natitingou, was the lucky winner of this first edition. Following her, Colombe Gbaguidi, a student in her first year of Mathematical Engineering and Modelling at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Génie Mathématiques et Modélisation (ENSGMM) in Abomey, was crowned 1st runner-up, followed by Isabelle N’ Sera Yanga, 2nd runner-up and a student in her first year of a professional degree in Physics, Chemistry and Technology at the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Natitingou The lucky winner was awarded a new motorbike, while the other finalists received, among other things, a laptop, mobile phone, unlimited internet connection, etc.
Miss UNSTIM’s special touch

The final of the Miss UNSTIM contest took place with a particularity. Each candidate submitted a project to the public and to the jury. Several themes were on the menu. The fighting against pollution, the setting up of a blood bank, the construction of a public garden, the manufacturing of a generator for the supply of electrical energy in the villages and several projects of general interest were the subject of exchanges between candidates and members of the jury followed by encouragement from the public.
This particularity gives credit to the organisers who have marked the difference between celebrations of the kind faced by the average person. Therefore, the Miss UNSTIM contest puts forward the science, technology, innovation and scientific ambition of the candidates who propose intelligent solutions to meet a societal need.
Several cultural and artistic animations marked this event with the effective presence of the star Fana Fana Lady Sèssimè, who gave a special touch to this evening with a charming public who stayed until dawn to celebrate the scientific character of the Queens of UNSTIM.
At the end of this evening with local colours, we can without any complex, give a satisfaction to the Federation of Students of the University of Abomey (FEUA), to the Rectorate and to the partners who did not spare any effort to support this event. “In addition to being a gamble, the organisation of this event was a challenge for me and all the members of the federation. It was not a foregone conclusion but we succeeded,” said Anas Tchegbeli, president of the FEUA. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all those who have been involved in the initiative since its inception, especially the parents of students. For the president of the organising committee, Gloire Avianssou, the stage has been set and the next management team of the federation has the obligation to do better.
