Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles are out of the 2022 World Cup. Despite their victory against France on Wednesday 30 November, the Tunisian eagle has unfortunately not taken off. As for the Atlas Lions of Morocco, they came to the end of Canada. The victory makes Morocco the second African nation to reach the last 16 after Senegal.
On Wednesday 30 November, Tunisia faced France. Already leading their group, this match is not a big issue for the French. But for the Carthage Eagles, it is a glimmer of hope to see themselves in the last 16 provided that Denmark beat Australia.
Tunisia’s hope is gone but with honour
The France-Tunisia match got off to a good start with a strong presence from the Eagles. In the 58th minute, the Tunisian captain Wahbi Khazri opened the score, whereas in the 8th minute, a Tunisian goal signed by Ghandri had been cancelled out.
The Tunisians held firm but the score of the match (Australia-Denmark), which should allow Tunisia to get back on track if Denmark wins, did not augur well. Australia beat the Danes 1-0. This does not give Tunisia any advantage.
Nevertheless, the victory over France was an achievement as the Tunisians came out of the gate with honour.
Morocco defeat Canada
The second African team to contest their place in the last 16 is Morocco. The Atlas Lions played against Canada on Thursday 1 December 2022. Faced with such a challenging opponent, Morocco remained steadfast and won the match 2 goals to 1.
On the Moroccan side, the first goal came in the 4th minute of play and was scored by Hakim Ziyech. The second came from En-Nesyri in the 23rd minute.
Morocco finished 1st in group F with 7 points followed by Croatia (5pts), Belgium (4 pts and eliminated) and Canada (0 pts and eliminated).
On Friday, Ghana and Cameroon make their final group outings. Ghana cross paths with Luis Suarez’s Uruguay.
This match could be a revenge for Ghana who were eliminated by the same Uruguay 12 years ago.
Cameroon will face Brazil. Could the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon survive in this confrontation? We will know more tonight.
Ghana – Uruguay (4pm).
Cameroon-Brazil (8pm).
