In Senegal, the final results of the 31 July legislative elections are expected in a few days. In the provisional results, the presidential coalition obtained 82 seats, followed closely by the opposition inter-coalition Yewwi Askan Wi – Wallu Senegal with 80 seats. This does not allow any of them to secure a majority. The opposition has finally not filed an appeal, the leaders of the two coalitions announced on Wednesday 10 August.
All eyes are on the Constitutional Council for the proclamation of the final results of the 31 July legislative elections. For the moment, neither the opposition nor the opposition has lodged an appeal with the institution. In a media appearance on Wednesday 10 August, the leaders of the two opposition coalitions confirmed that they had not filed an appeal. But they went back on the provisional results figures given by the National Voting Census Commission. According to them, the figures do not reflect the results of the ballot box.
The inter-coalition not in the running for the HCCT election.
The inter-coalition will not participate in the election of members of the High Council of Local Authorities, scheduled for 4 September. This is the other announcement made by the leaders of the opposition coalitions on Wednesday 10 August. Instead, the inter-coalition wants to remain on a steady course to obtain a majority in the assembly and dissolve the HCCT.
”In the program for the legislature it was clearly stated that if we have a majority in the National Assembly, we would dissolve the HCCT. The Yewwi – Wallu coalition does not boycott an election but wants to remain constant in its approach”, explains Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, of Yewwi Askan Wi.

The leaders also took the opportunity to propose to the three deputies from the small coalitions but also to the deputies of the presidential coalition Benno Bokk Yaakar, to join them in order to form a majority in the National Assembly.
It should be noted that the opposition and the ruling party were fighting for victory in the evening of 31 July just after the provisional results of the counting of ballots. The opposition had even warned against any attempt to manipulate the results.
