Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Cameroon and Ghana are the five African countries qualified for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. With just a few weeks to go before the start of the competition, Sadio Mané has spoken out about Senegal’s chances at the World Cup. For the two-time African Golden Ball winner, his country is not among the favourites.
“I don’t see Senegal as favourites because there are other nations far ahead like France, Spain… We will go there with composure and try to do what we are used to do,“ said the Bayern Munich striker on Rmc.
At the 2022 World Cup, Senegal is placed in group A with Qatar, the host country, Ecuador and Holland.
Sadio Mané, 2nd in the Golden Ball 2022 ranking
After George Weah, who won the Golden Ball in 1995, Sadio Mané is the second African player in history to finish on the Golden Ball podium. The Senegalese international is rewarded for his masterful season with Liverpool (League Cup and FA Cup winner, Champions League finalist, Premier League runner-up) as well as with the Lions of Teranga, with whom he won Senegal’s first African Cup of Nations. At the same time, he finished as the best player of the competition.
For his social work in his country, the native of Bambali received the first Socrates Award in history at the Golden Ball ceremony on Monday 17 October 2022 in Paris, France.
