The only African team left for the Qatar 2022 World Cup has played its match for the semi-finals. Against France, Morocco lost the duel with two goals conceded and none scored. Nevertheless, the Atlas Lions will be able to write a great story by illustrating themselves in the classification match against Croatia next Saturday.
A dream has been shattered for the Moroccan team which will not reach the final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Facing the French, the Atlas Lions capitulated on Wednesday 14 December by conceding 2 goals.
With an entirely weak and porous defence, Morocco were caught out by France in the fifth minute when Theo Hernandez scored.
In the 17th minute, another Olivier Giroud assault almost broke through Yacine Bounou’s net. Fortunately, the crossbar was generous to Morocco in pushing the ball away.
The Atlas Lions, for their part, surprised Hugo Lloris with impeccable shots. The most remarkable was El Yamiq’s spin in the 44th minute in the first half.
After the break, Morocco’s fate was sealed when young Frenchman Kolo Muani scored the second goal of the game in the 79th minute.
Despite the determination and the firm desire to reduce the score, nothing worked for the Moroccans. The French goalkeeper Lloris, very present throughout the match, did not allow the opponent to surprise him.
It should be noted that Morocco is the only African country to reach this level of the competition. The Atlas Lions have achieved a huge feat by eliminating Spain and Portugal of the great Cristiano Ronaldo.
Morocco plays Croatia on Saturday 17 December for the classification match.
On Sunday 18 December, the final will be played between Kylian Mbappé’s France and Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
