Morocco achieved another feat after eliminating Spain in the round of 16. On Saturday 10 December, the Atlas Lions got the better of Portugal’s legend Cristiano Ronaldo. 1-0 is the score of this famous game. The goal came 42 minutes into the first half and was scored by Y. En-Nesyri. The goal conceded by the Portuguese did not go unanswered.
The assaults increased. A powerful shot from Bruno Fernandes almost broke through the Moroccan net, but was unfortunately saved by the crossbar.
After the break, and until the end, the Portuguese did not reverse the trend. The failure is complete. Regrets for some, tears for others who see their stay in Qatar cut short in the middle of such a great adventure.
It should be noted that Morocco’s victory marks the first time an African team has reached the semi-finals of a World Cup competition.
Across the black continent, support for Morocco is growing and pride seems to be unanimous.
Morocco’s next opponent is France, who came from behind to beat England (2-1).
