Aminata Touré, who was elected as a member of parliament in the July 2022 legislative elections in the presidential camp, has been stripped of her position. This was at the end of a meeting held on Tuesday of the parliamentary group supporting the actions of President Macky Sall.
The board of the Senegalese National Assembly has acted this Tuesday, the disqualification of the deputy Aminata Touré. 10 board members voted in favour and 6 disapproved the decision.
“I have just learned of my exclusion from the National Assembly by President Macky Sall in total violation of the law,” Aminata Touré reacted on Twitter on Tuesday after the decision was announced. However, she reaffirmed her determination to continue the fight for the entrenchment of democracy and against the 3rd term attempt.
At the origin of this quarrel which led to the disqualification of Mrs. Aminata Touré, the deputy distanced herself from the presidential camp since last September. Ms Touré was one of three MPs not affiliated to any government or opposition parliamentary group out of 165 in the National Assembly. According to the rules of procedure of the National Assembly, any member who resigns from his or her party during the legislature is automatically stripped of his or her mandate.
For a long time close to the Head of State, she felt betrayed when the latter appointed Amadou Mame Diop as President of the National Assembly. Since then, the former head of government of Macky Sall from September 2013 to July 2014, has made the issue of the third term of the President of the Republic, his favorite fight.
