The Sports Classes program initiated by the Government of Benin is already bearing fruit. Students from the program honoured Benin by winning the West African School Championship UFOA B 2022 for the African School Championship, Morocco 2023. These are the teams of the CEG Sainte Rita of Cotonou at the male level and the CEG of Cobly in the department of Atacora at the female level.

After their brilliant performance in Abidjan in Ivory Coast during the UFOA-B tournament, the Beninese Ambassadors were welcomed in the early hours of this Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at the Cardinal Bernardin Gantin International Airport in Cotonou, in a popular jubilation by the Minister of Sports, Mr. Oswald Homeky accompanied for the occasion by the Director General of OBSSU, Mr. Alexis Donald Acakpo, executives of the Ministry of Sports, those of the Ministry of Secondary Education, members of the Beninese Federation of Football and actors of the sporting world.

At the Champroux stadium in Marcory, Abidjan, the young Beninese from CEG Sainte Rita beat those from Ivory Coast (Secondary school Venus of Saioua) by a score of 2-0. In the girls’ category, Benin was also crowned champion. The young Beninese girls from CEG Cobly won against those from Burkina-Faso (Chanvigny B School) in a penalty shoot-out 6-5. Crowned champions, the girls from CEG Cobly and the boys from CEG Sainte Rita won several trophies and medals with each of the two teams receiving a cheque for One Hundred Thousand (100,000) American dollars.

On behalf of the Government and its Head, President Patrice Talon, the Minister of Sports Oswald Homeky congratulated these heroes for their bravery and reassured them of the Executive’s support for a new generation of quality sportsmen and women in Benin: “Very young people, you have just demonstrated to the world that the Government was right to initiate and carry out this sports class program. The merit is yours. Thank you to all your supervisors, to the managers of our two ministries and to all the actors involved in the smooth running of this program. We will not stop here. The next generation is now assured. We will continue to work. Congratulations to you, dear children,” said the Minister of Sport.
